This week’s #FriFotos theme, “geometric,” was a fun one for me and I had a lot to contribute! Both Morocco and Spain are literally overflowing with examples of gorgeous structures, architecture and design that are visually stunning and technically complicated.

Barcelona, Spain: La Pedrera

It’s hard to miss any of Antoni Gaudi’s surreal masterpieces in Barcelona, but a stop at La Pedrera is mandatory (in my opinion) to see the marvelous roof with its whimsical chimneys.

Granada, Spain: La Alhambra

Among the top-visited sites in Spain, La Alhambra is a masterpiece and takes at least a day to experience properly.

Seville, Spain: Real Alcazar

Seville’s Real Alcázar is full of interesting, geometric designs, due in part to its construction during Moorish rule in Andalucia.

I’ve written before about the magnificent baths hidden below the palace, they really must be seen to be believed.

Cordoba, Spain: La Mezquita

Like Granada and Seville, Cordoba was saw a lot of construction during Moorish rule in Andalucia. La Mezquita, the present-day cathedral in Cordoba, was built in several phases, but each phase added on to the endless rows of red and white arches.

Meknes, Morocco: Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail

With so much talk of Moorish architecture, it’s impossible to overlook Morocco’s many, many sites with stunning Moorish design, like the mausoleum of Moulay Ismail in Meknes.
